My Debut Comedy Show
63I have been away from hub pages for a while due to the fact that I have embarked on what I call " My Retirement Career ". My retirement career, among other things, will be doing stand up comedy.
On or about August 1, I first decided to embark in this career and in so doing, I planned my debut performance for a live comedy show on Friday September 17th. I rented a room which seats 100 people at the Dayton Community Center in Dayton Texas. I would host a 2 hour comedy show for the first time.
Much to my surprise there was a huge demand for such a show at this location. After 7 hours of renting this space, it sold out. I was forced to rent space in the grand ballroom which seats up to 1000 people. Ticket sales were extremely good.
I never imagined how much work and time was involved in doing such a show. Two hours of comedy consists of a tremendous amount of jokes. Just about every spare minute of the next six weeks would find me preparing for such a show.
During a show like this, you cannot stand up there and read your jokes. They must be memorized. However, my method was to make a list of keywords from my jokes. I had 92 jokes, with one keyword for each joke, which told me what joke to tell. This method worked great. I am not a singer but did embark on a tune during the show which came out good according to critics present.
Anyway, my debut performance was a huge success. I had ballots for the audience to fill out in order to judge the show and all but three ballots came back highly rated. It was deemed a success due to the ballots and the revenue that the show produced. After all expenses, the show would net me three weeks of wages which I made in two hours.
Considering the work it took to ready myself for a show like this, it is something that I could not do on a too regular of a basis. It takes a lot out of you, physically and emotionally. However, I do not like how it demanded so much of my time away from hub pages and my friends and followers. So for now, I am back into full swing on my hub site.
I want to thank all my friends on hubpages for still being here when I returned and God bless you all.

This was an amazing task that you took on my friend. Trying to fit it all in between work and other duties was a great feat. But most of all to organize it and pull it off with such positive results was nothing short of a miracle. Especially when you stood for God first by not allowing any liquor on the premises and not one crude joke. Wonderful job...
